Introducing PoMaCon's All New Automatic Banding Table Fully automatic coil banding tables can be a blessing or a curse. When they are set up properly, they will cycle through coils at a blistering pace. However, the machines are historically temperamental and many have dismissed them as "more trouble than they are worth." If you have struggled with a fully automatic banding table in the past, you will appreciate our new machine! We took every issue that we, or our customers, have encountered over the last 20 years and addressed them with this "clean sheet" design. Click here to see a short video of our Automatic Banding Table in action! The first challenge with a fully automatic machine is centering the coil underneath the banding head. Traditional centering methods involved driving the coil against centering pins or pushing the coil into position via blocker rolls. These procedures can damage soft coils and prematurely wear out conveyor rollers. Our unique, non-contact centering procedure stops the coil exactly in position, ready for banding -- no pushing or dragging required! The next challenge is reliably moving the banding head into position. By referencing coil data obtained during our centering procedure and utilizing a proportional valve to control head movement, we can correctly position the head for banding any size coil. With both the coil and the head in position, the single hardest part of the banding process begins -- feeding the strap. With our new machine, we have rigidly fixed the banding head and all of our strap guides. Once the strap guides are initially aligned, there is no relative motion between them to cause the strap to miss feed! We have also redesigned our strap gates to make the strap feeding process even more reliable. Our new banding table utilizes a Signode KLS banding head. This head is an all electric, sealless unit with an emphasis on ease of maintenance. The head is a modular design allowing the jaw pack to be replaced in less than 5 minutes. Quick disconnect wiring is utilized, and all adjustments are readily accessible. Maintenance was a top priority for our new machine. We mounted the banding head so that the business side is unobstructed. If you have ever tried to service a head that was buried inside a machine, you will appreciate this. Furthermore, we extended the banding head travel so that the head moves completely outboard of the manipulating table. The head can be positioned about chest high when you need to load strap or service it. You no longer have to climb on the manipulating table -- the head comes to you! Another unique feature is our second, maintenance only, operator station. This station is located on the drive side of the banding table and provides maintenance workers the controls necessary to service the banding head. On this operator station, we have included a disable key-switch which locks out any movement of the head and completely shuts off power to the head itself. This allows maintenance to safely service or remove the head while the manipulating table remains operational. You no longer have to stop production to load strap or adjust the banding head! Finally, we have designed a new strap accumulator and jumbo payout reel to feed our banding table. The payout reel can handle coils of oscillate wound strap up to 2,000 lbs. Now you can run for weeks without stopping to load strap! We are very excited about this machine. The preceding has discussed just a few of the highlights of our new design.
